About the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first World Cup with 48 nations, split into 12 groups of 4 — and the first jointly hosted by three countries: the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The opening match is on 11 June 2026 at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City — the only stadium ever to host three World Cups. The final is on Sunday 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New York/New Jersey.

The tournament introduces a new Round of 32 because of the expanded format. Top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams qualify for the knockouts.
